Powerful 998 cc Liquid-Cooled, 4-Stroke In-Line Four. The Ninja ZX-10R’s engine balances stunning power with manageability. Positioning peak torque high up in the rpm range makes it easier for riders to get back on the gas, while a strong low-mid range further contributes to acceleration coming out of corners.
My FJR at 100 mph is at 5K rpm, my Z400 is @ 10 rpm. With the full Akra, K&N, and ECU flash, the Z will easily pull more gear, it takes off in 2nd gear no problemo. On long rides a lower rpm is nice. Butt, yer right, most peeps actually gear 'em down. '07 FJR1300 '19 Z400 2017 FJ-09.
When I had my 300 my RPMs were always around 7.5k when cruising and I was usually in 5th gear. I don't remember what speed I was at I thin like 55-60mph. When you're going up hill you want to be in a lower gear so you have the power needed to climb unless you're already at speed when hitting the hill.

I have not heard it on my 400, but on several other Kaw's I have owned, it tends to rattle a bit. I don't think this noise has anything to do with fuel octane. 87 octane is plenty for this machine. More likely, as I found, these sensors make noise at a certain rpm rangeabove or below that range, you never hear them rattle. Anyway, just my .02.
Woomba · #4 · Jul 9, 2014 (Edited) I've been playing with the idle a bit over the past month. Don't go below 1000 rpm. It will run, but it will occasionally stall in stop and go traffic, and it just doesn't sound right. Currently the weather is warm, and I've found it running quite smoothly at 1100 rpm.
